What is a third function valve kit?

A true third function kit allows you to independently control the flow of hydraulic fluid in and out of a cylinder (or a number of cylinders), using a series of either separate switches or switches contained within a joystick. When the button is pressed, the solenoid opens the flow of fluid to the cylinder, either extending or retracting it. Our third function valve kit is powered by the power beyond port of your existing loader valve which will allow you to use multiple functions at the same time (i.e. curl bucket and close grapple).

What third function kit is right for me?

We have tractor specific third function kits for subcompact/compact Kubota, John Deere, Kioti, Bobcat, and LS models.

If we don’t have a complete kit for you, our universal third function kits will work great on any machine. Answer the questions below to see what kit is right for you.

Our third function kit is a universal valve kit designed for use on a wide variety of machines. That said, there are a few things you need to check on to ensure this is the right kit for you. You need to find the following information

What is the flow you’ll be running through this valve?
A great resource for finding the overall flow of your machine is tractordata.com. From there, you can look up your machine and look at the “pump flow”. If you have less than 15 GPM pump flow, our standard third function kit is perfect. If your flow is over 15 GPM and less than 21 GPM, then we have our Z80 Universal Third Function Kit. For flow greater than 21 GPM and less than 25 GPM, our 25 GPM TFK is ideal.
What quick couplers do you need included with the third function kit?
We currently offer kits with standard 1/2″ AG Pioneer style couplers and 1/2″ Flat Face style couplers. If you’re unsure about coupler types and sizes, please refer to our coupler F.A.Q. page.

How do I connect my third function valve?

All of our third function valve kits will connect via the power beyond on your loader valve. This power beyond may be a plug on your loader valve or a hose connected to your loader valve. Then, you’ll need to connect another line from our third function valve that goes back to your hydraulic tank.

How do I find my power beyond on my loader valve?

Typically, there are seven hoses or steel tubes connected to the loader valve. If only six hoses or tubes; there is no Power Beyond Port on your loader valve. The 1st four are connected to your loader for the up, down, dump, and curl functions. The fifth line comes from your pump to feed your loader valve. The sixth line goes directly to your reservoir so that when the pressure relief valve opens the fluid is dumped directly to the reservoir. The seventh line is connected to the “Power Beyond Port” on your loader valve, which is used to power other valves beyond the loader valve. On some loader valves there is a “PB” stamped on the valve next to the power beyond port. Some loaders indicate their power beyond port with green tape or a green mark on the hose or valve. Some loader valves have a power beyond sleeve inserted in the power beyond port. This sleeve looks like a nut; however, it is 3 to 4 times longer than a normal sized nut. On some loader valves there are no clues to help determine which connection is the power beyond port. Your owner’s manual may not even indicate the location.

What is the power beyond conversion plug and do I need it?

The power beyond conversion plug is designed for use ONLY ON MANUAL AND SOLENOID MONOBLOCKS (NOT ON OUR D03 STYLE VALVES) to add another valve downstream. For example, if you were to attach two monoblocks in-line together, you would need the power beyond conversion plug to connect the first valve to the second valve. If however you are simply connecting this valve to your power beyond on your loader valve, you DO NOT need the power beyond conversion plug.

Are hoses included in your third function valve kit?

For our Universal Third Function Kits, due to the extensive variety of machines on the market and variation of hose lengths required for those machines, we currently do not include hoses. We recommend ordering your valve, finding a good place for mounting, and then measuring your hose lengths from there. Please view our set length hose assemblies here.

For our Kubota, John Deere, Kioti, Bobcat, and LS tractor kits, we include all necessary hoses.

Is a bracket included in your third funciton valve kit?

On our Kubota, John Deere, Kioti, Bobcat and LS Third Function Kits, we include brackets to mount both the valve, and quick connect couplers to your machine.
Our Monoblock 13 GPM and 21 GPM Valve Kits do not include mounting brackets.
Our 15 GPM Universal Third Function Kits and 25 GPM Universal Third Function Kits Includes a universal bracket to mount the valve onto your machine via weld or bolt.
We carry select third function brackets for sale separately.

How do I connect the joystick handle switch to power?

The standard kit is designed for 12v DC power (24v upgrade is available). If you’re unsure about what voltage your machine requires please check tractordata.com or consult your owner’s manual. You can connect this power wire (red) directly to your battery, a keyed/ignition or fused power source. If you need more information on the plastic DIN connector layout, see the Switch FAQ page.

The Universal Third function kits include a 10′ Wiring Harness, as well as a 3′ switch harness, giving you 13′ between valve and switch.
