Summit Hydraulics’ latest video has released! Summit’s Tractor Ryan shows us how to install a third function kit on a Kubota L4701 tractor.

A third function kit is a useful addition to a machine because it allows you to operate implements like a grapple, snow plow, or blade. The kit comes with everything you need to install the valve, hoses, and joystick.

Before starting installation, it is recommended to remove the loader to create more space to work. Then, install the valve mounting bracket. This involves removing two bolts on the control valve for the loader and using the existing hardware to fasten everything back together.

Next, install the front coupler bracket and run the hoses. The hoses are color-coded to avoid confusion: the green hose is for machines without factory rear remotes, and the orange hose is for machines with factory rear remotes.

After running the hoses, connect them to the quick coupler bracket. Zip tie the hoses together to keep them organized and out of the way.

Then, it is time for the wiring process. This involves removing the rubber handle from the lever and installing our two-button joystick. The joystick wires are connected to the solenoids on the valve, and then routed underneath the tractor towards the front of the machine, where they are connected to the battery. We recommend removing the two screws for the air filter to create more space for routing the wires.
